Two Y5/6 teams, from Thornhill, went to represent our school in the South Yorkshire hockey finals held in Doncaster. Luckily, the afternoon stayed dry and all the children performed brilliantly, showing determination and skill throughout the matches against some very good sides.
Unfortunately for the girls, their efforts weren’t rewarded with qualification, despite an excellent display by our goalkeeper who was playing in full protective gear for the very first time.
As for the boys, qualification went down to the very last game. In the four games they played, they didn’t concede a goal and remained undefeated, with our keeper only touching the ball twice. However, only the one goal was scored in the last game to give them 3 draws and a victory which totaled 6 points. The post, a couple of good saves and some poor finishing contributed to the lack of goals scored.
The boys hoped for a draw in the final match but unfortunately that wasn’t the case and we lost out by a single point. Congratulations to the teams that did qualify and good luck.
The stand out performer for the girls was goalkeeper Nitasha and for the boys it was Rizwan otherwise known as ‘the wall’ as nothing got past him.
