Dear Y6 Parent/Carer,

As we continue to experience life in lockdown, I hope that you and your families are safe and well. Of course, quite a lot has happened over recent days, and so I am writing to you to provide some reassurance over your child’s transition to Winterhill School.

Firstly, I want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff is our number one priority, and that everything we do will be based on this principle. When we are informed by the Government that it is safe for secondary schools to re-open, we will carefully consider the best way to do this based on national and local advice, as well as considering a range of evidence from respected and trusted sources.

Our hope is that each primary school Y6 cohort will visit Winterhill to meet myself and other key staff and receive an induction to life at Winterhill before we break up for summer. Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that the previously planned 2 week transition programme will take place. However, I would like to reassure you that no child will miss out from any transition activity whether they are attending primary school or not.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me through your child’s primary school or directly.  You can also contact our Senior Transitions Coordinator, Heidi Cooper, through email on

Take care and stay safe.

Mr S Rhodes
