Omegle – Online Safety Guide

Omegle SRP E-Bulletin

Omegle is a free social network website that connects users with random strangers to chat via video, text, or audio, known as virtual chatrooms.

Omegle is not for children. The terms and conditions set out by Omegle state there is a 13+ age restriction and asked users under the age of 18 to access the site with parental guidance. This can be easily bypassed as there is no registration process or age verification.

There is a concern with video chat as it is possible for users to be exposed to harmful or sexual content, as well as share their own sexual behaviour online. As with any webcam platform, there is always the chance that footage may be recorded and distributed without the user’s knowledge. Sexual content is discouraged by Omegle, however there is no restrictions to content.

Reporting

  • No clear way to block users on Omegle.
  • Users can report others to a Moderator or
  • Admin but there is no instructions o
  • guidance on how to do this.
  • If you have any concerns about grooming,
  • sexual abuse, or exploitation report to CEOP at www.ceop.police.uk/safety- centre
