Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education at Thornhill offers both explicit and implicit learning opportunities and experiences which reflect pupils’ increasing independence and physical and social awareness, as they move through the primary phase using the building blocks taught during EYFS. Strong, warm and supportive relationships with adults enable our children to learn how to understand their own feelings and those of others. Personal, Social, Health and Economic Educationeducation helps pupils to manage their physical and emotional changes at puberty, introduces them to a wider world, enables them to make an active contribution to our school and local community.

The children are encouraged to ask questions to promote their learning and this allows them to understand their community, wider world, families and relationships. We promote enthusiastic learning in the topic by engaging in high quality discussion and debate.
Our aim is to provide a secure platform from which our children can achieve at school and in later life.

Resilient:

Children learn to use a variety of strategies to help them self-regulate and deal with their emotions. Through discussion and role-play, children learn to solve problems.

Ready:

Our pupils learn that there are many positive and negative aspects to a healthy lifestyle, which include mental health, physical health, growing and changing healthy relationships, keeping safe and the effects of drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
Children have opportunities to access resources so they can recognise and manage their feelings and emotions. We allow children time to share and discuss what it is that makes them feel a certain way and know that feelings may change over time.
We provide children with the knowledge that there are different occupations and how their individual strengths will enable them to find a suitable career for them.
